Learn to Homebrew Day and IPA Experiment

We are partnering once again with Bell's General Store to host a "Learn to Homebrew Day" on Saturday, November 2nd. Festivities will begin at 10am and go until 4pm.

To make this even more interesting, we are also proposing a small experiment for recipes brewed that day. We have prepared a basic IPA recipe and allow each brewer to change one or two ingredients to make it their own. Swap out base or specialty malts, hop varieties and quantities or yeast strains to add your own "tweak" to the original. At the December meeting, we will have a group tasting to see if everyone can pick out the variations. Check out the recipe and all the other details on the event at our website:

If you are interesting in brewing at the event, using the group recipe or something else, please let us know. Also, if you want to participate in the IPA experiment but can't brew with us at Bell's, get in touch and help coordinate your planned variation. This is also a great opportunity to introduce friends, family and co-workers to homebrewing so make sure to pass along the invite to anyone and everyone.

Bell's Homebrew Competition

Don't forget to submit your entries for the Bell's homebrew competition by this Saturday, October 26th. We are looking for a strong showing from KLOB and hopefully several members in the top spots of the results. Good luck!

Kalamazoo Kup 2013

In an effort to help those brewers who are new to competitions and improve the quality and diversity beer brewed by the club, we are pleased to announce a new annual event: THE KALAMAZOO KUP. For this inaugural year, this competition will be exclusively for KLOB members. You can submit 1 entry to any of the 23 major BJCP beer categories with a maximum to 3 total entries. Entries can be submitted until December 2nd and the winners will be announced at the December meeting. We're also looking for BJCP certified judges to help with the evaluations.

Officers for 2014

We forgot to mention in all of our announcements on Monday that at the November meeting we will be collecting nominations for officers for next year. If you like to nominate yourself or a fellow club member to be a bigger part of all that it takes to keep the club operating and thriving, please contact us.

NHC 2014

The National Homebrew Conference will taking place June 12-14 in Grand Rapids. There's no time like the present to start brewing beers that we can take to this event to represent the club. Specifically, we'd like to see a good showing of meads, ciders and any other brew featuring Michigan ingredients.

Be looking for updates on the details of this event as they come.
