July Meeting and Other Announcements

July Meeting

This is a friendly reminder that we will be having our normal monthly meeting this coming Monday, July 21st at 7pm at Boatyard Brewing Company.  As previously mentioned, our guest speaker will be John Mallett, Director of Operations at Bell's Brewing.  He will be giving a talk on the malting process and how it plays into the finished beer.  John isn't just an accomplished brewer but also self-described "malt geek" who has a book on the subject coming out later this year.  You don't want to miss this presentation by a true expert in the field.

We are also pleased to confirm that Gorilla Gourmet will be at this month's meeting, serving many tasty treats to go along with all the fantastic beer.  If there are any issues, we will try to notify everyone in advance so you can make other food arrangements.

KLOB Roast 2014

It's once again that time...KLOB ROAST!  This year is extra special as it is our 20th anniversary of the event.  For those who have never attended, the Roast replaces our September meeting and is a celebration of homebrew and barbeque.  All are welcome including family, friends, co-workers and anyone else that enjoys good beer and food.  Check out all the photos from last year to see all the fun in store.

The event will take place on Saturday, September 20th, 2014 from noon until 8pm.  We will be returning to Coldbrook County Park in Climax which is just 20 minutes from downtown Kalamazoo.  We will have a picnic shelter reserved for our group but you are free to take advantage of all that the park has to offer, including disc golf, fishing and more.

We will have dinner provided by Sean Anderson Catering.  Sean will be preparing a whole hog for our event which should mean there will be plenty of tasty barbecue for everyone. He'll also be providing several side dishes and pre-dinner munchies. If you have any special dietary requirements, let us know and we will attempt to accommodate.

Of course, the main attraction of this event is the beer!  This is a BYOB event but, more importantly, this is a chance for you to bring you biggest and best homebrews to share with your fellow members.  We will have the club jockey box available for anyone who wants to bring kegs.  Otherwise, bottles, growlers and anything else are welcome. So start brewing today or set aside your favorite libations to bring to the Roast!

So now you ask, what's the price?  The officers and Roast planning committee has done everything possible to keep the ticket price as low as possible. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Members must have their 2014 dues paid in full to receive their discount so if you have yet to renew, now is a great time to do so. The ticket covers the cost of your entrance into the park, dinner and a collectible pint glass featuring this year's amazing artwork by member Chad Laning.  Tickets will be available at the July and August meetings as well as Tempo Vino Winery in downtown Kalamazoo.  We can accept cash, check or credit card.

Additionally, we are offering a T-shirt featuring this year's artwork. We will have various colors (green, gray, maroon, pink, navy and black) and sizes available. We will be taking pre-orders at the July and August meetings and the price will be $12. After that, the price will go up to $15 so you should place your order as soon as possible!

Great Taste of the Midwest

Tickets for the GTMW have arrived and will be available for pick up at the July meeting.  If you paid for a ticket but will not be able to attend, please let us know and we will try to get your ticket to another member and get you your money back.  Do not attempt to sell your tickets on eBay, Craigslist or any other means! The Madison Homebrewers and Tasters Guild monitors these sites and will be revoke our privileges if they find our members selling their tickets.
